Bushrangers Bay

Bushrangers Bay in New South Wales is a protected marine sanctuary tucked within Bass Point Reserve near Shellharbour. This calm, sheltered bay is a hotspot for snorkelers, freedivers, and underwater photographers, offering some of the clearest and most accessible temperate-water diving on the NSW coast.

As part of a no-take aquatic reserve, its rocky reefs and kelp beds are alive with marine life—including schools of bream, blue gropers, port Jackson sharks, and, most notably, the elusive grey nurse shark. Often seen cruising peacefully through the deeper sections of the bay, these critically endangered sharks are a highlight for those lucky enough to encounter them. Their presence is a testament to the health of the reserve and adds a rare and thrilling dimension to the underwater experience.

Surrounded by towering cliffs and coastal bushland, Bushrangers Bay is a sanctuary both above and below the surface, showcasing the beauty and biodiversity of Australia's temperate marine ecosystems.
